Drama @ MOHS: The Program

Drama at Mission Oak High School. It’s building foundations in Drama 1 and pushing ourselves to new heights in Advanced Drama classes.

It’s a company of players working behind the scenes and on stage to produce performances on the MO campus and an annual musical at the majestic community Auditorium at Tulare Union.

It’s the Drama Club members, committee chairs, and officers raising funds, planning activities, and bringing student-driven ideas and dreams to reality while building career-ready skills.

Our Culture is Intentional...

Drama at MO welcomes anyone and everyone to be a supportive contributing member. Producing plays, musicals, lunch activities, fundraisers, and field trips require planning, active participation, time outside of class, and a positive team-first mentality by many people. Drama at MO is about learning the art of performing; there is no place here for the other kind of “drama” that causes problems. We support, encourage, and celebrate while we put in the hard work, give and receive constructive feedback, learn accountability to follow through on plans and projects, and have so much fun together along the way.

Drama Classes in Portable 5

Drama 1

Start here to qualify for graduating with the Drama CTE Pathway. Build a strong foundation on theatre - behind the scenes and on stage. Learn design and stagecraft basics. Literally BUILD - props, costumes, set pieces and more. End the year with a Drama 2/3 collab on the

MO Variety Show!

Drama 2&3: Advanced Drama

Elevate your acting, singing, directing, and playwriting talents in Advanced Drama. Rehearse numbers for the musical. Work with the district choral director, Kristen Pallas, on the musical’s vocals and harmony needs. Collab with Drama 1 on the MO Variety Show to end the year with a finale to remember.

Our Work

Drama 1 students designed, constructed, and painted props and set pieces for last year’s musical, Beauty and the Beast. They also sewed and built an MO original - an enchanted wall!

ASB provided a projector and artists to work with several Art and Drama 1 students to paint village store fronts and Belle’s cottage for scenes in Beauty and the Beast.

The MO Theatre Company ...

Rehearsals & Preparations

The MO company of players includes the on & off stage members who develop our productions from the ground up. From Portable 5 and the asphalt outside, to the MO Cafeteria, Hawk’s Landing, and the TU Auditorium - our players prepare for the space, adapt to the situation, and perform like professionals who also practice in one place and perform in another.

Roles & Participation

As we produce our play, musical, and other events, every role is equally important. A play is only as strong as the ensemble and crew behind the scenes. Classes are required to actively participate on stage or backstage. While much work is done during class periods, many rehearsals and building take place after school and on weekends. See a class syllabus for more details.

The Future...

Think about it. A huge part of our society’s focus surrounds “performers” - concerts and musicians, bands of so many different genres, comedy shows, movies, Hollywood, Broadway, competitions, and more.

Mission Oak is building an Olympic-sized aquatic complex that will serve MO students and draw state and national events to come to Tulare...

If we build a stellar Drama program that outgrows Portable 5, the MO Cafeteria, and the Tulare Union Auditorium - MO could be the new home to a cutting edge performing arts event center to serve MO students and draw popular entertainers and more to Tulare...

Drama Club

Outreach & Meetings

We welcome freshmen and prospective new members at orientation and the Club Fair every August. The Club meets every other week. Officers and Committee Chairs meet in between. Committee & Club members meet after school and on weekends to work productions, activities, and events.

Activities & Fundraisers

Drama at MO participates in and leads campus-wide activities and fundraisers as part of the larger student body. We support our fellow Art Club by selling concessions during the annual MO’z Art Festival in the spring. We host the Halloween Costume Contest and produce a corresponding haunted house or murder mystery in the fall. We put months of work into performing our spring musical as our largest fundraiser; the Drama Club sells concessions, seeks sponsors for our program, helps with ticket sales, and serves as ushers to break the fourth wall for the audience immediately. We fundraise to pay for field trips to LA or San Francisco to see the latest broadway musicals and make memories to last a lifetime.

Make sure to join the club’s Google Classroom to get meeting updates, vote on all things Drama, and access important info for events, activities, field trips and more!
